lest we forget

I had the opportunity of going to a Remembrance Day service at the Heritage Warplane Museum today. I got choked up looking at all the old veterans in their uniforms. The images that they have to take to their graves are unspeakable - the friends they have lost, uncountable...and yet we reap the benefits of the price they have paid for our freedom.

I had the opportunity to discuss Remembrance Day with a group of Grade 5 students after watching a video title 'Veterans Reflections'. A lot of the students were moved by the memories and stories shared by the veterans. I was reminded, once again, of the importance of taking time to reflect about the sacrifices that so many men/women made for our freedom. These men/women were people just like us...people who liked to hang out with their friends, had big dreams, looked forward to the future. We need to honour those veterans who are still living as well as to teach future generations the value of learning about our history (and the history of the world). Let there be peace.
